His daughter reported him missing, informing authorities that no one had seen or heard from him since May 12, 2023. At the time of his disappearance, Miljus was described as being six feet tall with a medium build, blue eyes, and gray hair. He was believed to be wearing dark gray sweatpants, white tennis shoes, and a bluish-colored t-shirt. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance were troubling; Miljus had recently been evicted from his home in Duquesne and had no current address, adding a layer of vulnerability to his situation.
The investigation into Nicholas Miljus's disappearance revealed that while family contact was lost in May, there was a transaction on his bank account in June. After that, his financial trail went cold, and his cell phone was eventually shut off.
Prior to that, there were indications that his phone's data was being used in the evenings, but any attempts at communication went unanswered. His daughter expressed deep concern for his wellbeing, telling police she believed he struggled with drug addiction. Tragically, the search for Nicholas Miljus came to a heartbreaking conclusion nearly a year after he was last seen. On March 16, 2024, skeletal remains were discovered behind a building on O'Neil Boulevard in White Oak. On April 2, the medical examiner confirmed the remains were those of Nicholas Miljus. The discovery brought a painful end to his family's search. His daughter later voiced her belief that more could have been done by law enforcement in the initial stages of his disappearance, stating that a missing persons report was not filed by Duquesne police until September, several months after he vanished.
