On October 11, 2024, 77-year-old Linda Ann McCuiston was reported missing from her home in Rockingham, North Carolina. She was last seen by law enforcement near her residence on Country Canyon Drive in the Meadowood subdivision of Cordova. At the time of her disappearance, McCuiston was described as a white female, standing between 5 feet and 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighing between 115 and 125 pounds. She had graying, shoulder-length hair and brown eyes.
When last seen, she was wearing a black shirt, dark purple pants, a black toboggan, and black slides. Family members reported that McCuiston suffered from dementia and other cognitive issues.
The Richmond County Sheriff's Office immediately launched an extensive search for McCuiston. Deputies, investigators, and search and rescue teams scoured the wooded areas surrounding her neighborhood on the ground, while drones were used to search from the air. The search efforts continued for months, involving various local and state resources. Authorities issued missing endangered person alerts in October and again in January. A reward of $1,500 was also offered for information that could help locate her. Despite these efforts, weeks turned into months with no sign of Linda McCuiston.
Tragically, the search came to a devastating end in March 2025. On March 9, human remains were discovered in the Meadow Wood Community of Cordova. The remains were sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which later confirmed they belonged to Linda Ann McCuiston. In a statement, Sheriff Mark Gulledge expressed that this was not the outcome they had hoped for and affirmed that investigators would persist in seeking answers regarding her disappearance. The case remains an active investigation as authorities work to understand the circumstances surrounding her death, though they have stated there is currently no evidence of foul play.
