When deputies from the Chatham County Sheriff's Office arrived, they found that Parsons was not at the residence, and her vehicle, a gray 2009 Ford Escape, was also missing. A significant detail in the initial investigation was the discovery of her cell phone, which had been left behind on the kitchen counter.
The search for Alice Parsons began immediately, with law enforcement canvassing her neighborhood, speaking with friends and acquaintances, and patrolling the area around Fearrington Village. The urgency of the search was heightened by her age and health conditions. The vehicle was confirmed to be Parsons' gray Ford Escape, and inside, authorities found a body that matched her description. The remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for positive identification and to determine the cause of death.
