Virginia Alice Welch, 22, was last seen on July 9, 1982, in Roanoke, Virginia. She had recently moved into a home with a male roommate in southeast Roanoke and was reportedly seen leaving the house carrying a plastic bag. Welch had a complicated personal life at the time, including involvement with a motorcycle gang known as the Pagans, and rumors circulated that she might have been a federal informant following the arrest of several gang members in a drug raid shortly before her disappearance.
