Brenda Gail Lambert, a 22-year-old mother of two, was last seen on the evening of July 26, 1992, at her home on Windmill Hill Road in Bluewell, West Virginia. The day had been spent celebrating her son's first birthday with a party attended by family and friends. By 9:00 p.m., the last of the guests had departed. The following morning, Brenda was gone. Her car remained in the driveway, and all of her personal belongings, including her purse and keys, were left behind inside the house. There were no signs of a struggle or forced entry at the residence. At the time of her disappearance, Brenda was described as being 5'2" tall and weighing between 110 and 115 pounds, with curly, shoulder-length black hair and blue eyes. Distinctive features included pierced ears, dark freckles on her shoulders, a birthmark on the back of her leg, and a one-inch scar on her right wrist.
The circumstances leading up to Brenda's disappearance were troubled.
She was in the process of separating from her husband, Raymond Lambert, and had scheduled an appointment with a divorce lawyer for July 30, 1992. In the weeks prior to vanishing, Brenda had filed a domestic violence complaint against her husband on July 8, only to request that it be dropped two days later. Family members reported that she had been a victim of domestic abuse, noting instances where she had black eyes and red marks around her neck. Tension was reportedly noticeable between Brenda and Raymond during their son's birthday party. Raymond, who had moved out of their home, attended the party and left with their two children at around 8:00 p.m.
The investigation into Brenda's disappearance has spanned decades without resolution. Foul play is suspected in her case. Five months after she went missing, on January 14, 1993, a man she was reportedly seeing, Mark Anthony Cook, also disappeared under suspicious circumstances, leading authorities to believe the two cases may be connected. An unnamed male suspect failed a polygraph test early in the investigation, but a lack of evidence prevented any charges from being filed. Despite numerous searches and reported sightings in the initial aftermath of her disappearance, none were confirmed to be Brenda. Over the years, her family has continued to advocate for her, working with organizations to keep her case in the public eye. In 2022, Brenda Gail Lambert was legally declared deceased.
