In the summer of 2023, a 23-year-old man named Jamil Yamir Paz from Plano, Texas, embarked on a journey that would end in his disappearance. He had been hired as a day laborer for a job that was supposed to take him to Chicago, Illinois. He left his home in Texas with a man who was reportedly driving a U-Haul box truck. This employment opportunity, which seemed straightforward, would be the beginning of a deeply concerning series of events that would leave his family and friends searching for
answers. The details surrounding who hired him and the specifics of the work he was to perform in Chicago remain limited, adding to the mystery of his case.
The last confirmed sighting of Jamil was on August 7, 2023. On that day, he was the one behind the wheel of the U-Haul truck, traveling on Interstate 55 in Sangamon County, Illinois. An Illinois State Police trooper initiated a traffic stop, which is the last time any law enforcement had contact with him. At the time of the stop, there was an unidentified male passenger in the truck with Jamil. Following this traffic stop, Jamil and the U-Haul truck he was driving seemed to vanish. The identity of the man he was traveling with and what transpired after the police stop are critical pieces of information that remain unknown.
The investigation into Jamil's disappearance has been spearheaded by the Plano Police Department in Texas. He is described as a Hispanic male, standing at 6 feet tall and weighing around 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. The vehicle he was last seen in was a 2016 GMC U-Haul box truck with Arizona license plate number AL68361. The case is a heart-wrenching example of how a search for work and a better life can turn into a mysterious and distressing situation. The lack of concrete leads and the unknown identity of his traveling companion have created a challenging and painful ordeal for his loved ones, who continue to hope for his safe return.
