On a summer afternoon, Michael W. Schmidt was enjoying a quiet hobby, hunting for arrowheads with a friend in a familiar, heavily wooded area of Pawnee, Illinois. It was shortly before 6:00 p.m. on June 10, 2018, near the 7600 block of Vigal Road where it intersects with Brush Creek.
