On the last day of 1999, Patsy Ruth Nonemaker, a 55-year-old woman from Shepherdsville, Kentucky, disappeared from her home. The day was December 31, and Patsy was last seen at her residence at about 4:00 p.m. She had been grappling with depression and mental illness for a number of years, and 1999 had been an especially difficult year for her. In September, her cherished dog had gone missing, and her father had passed away on December 19th.
Following her father's death, her doctor had adjusted her medication, and she was still adapting to the new dosage at the time of her disappearance.
Patsy's husband, Paul Nonemaker, returned home from running errands at approximately 6:00 p.m. to find that his wife was not there. Her car was parked in the driveway, and her purse was in the bedroom, but Patsy was gone. Concerned due to her fragile mental state, Paul immediately began to search the neighborhood for her. Some neighbors reported having seen Patsy, who had asked them if they had seen her missing dog. After they told her they had not, she was last observed walking down Lees Valley Way in the direction of Highway 44. There was another possible but unconfirmed sighting of her walking along Interstate 65 near Exit 117 around 6:00 p.m. She had left without her purse, identification, money, credit cards, or essential medication.
Patsy was last seen wearing a long black coat, a blue-gray pullover shirt, gray slacks, and brown suede shoes. She also had on a diamond wedding ring and a diamond heart necklace. She has several distinguishing features, including a mole on her upper left cheek, a short right index finger, and a bent middle finger on her right hand. Although Patsy had wandered from home on previous occasions, she had always taken her personal belongings with her. This time, however, she left everything behind. The Bullitt County Sheriff's Office is the investigating agency in her case.
