Rachel Cooke, a 19-year-old woman, went missing on January 10, 2002, while on a morning jog near her family’s home in Georgetown, Texas. She was visiting her parents during her winter break from college in San Diego, California. That morning, Rachel was last seen running along Neches Trail around 11:30 a.m., only 200 yards away from her home. She never returned, and her family reported her missing after her father came home and could not find her.
Rachel was an experienced runner and often jogged the same four-mile route. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a gray running outfit, white sneakers, and a green sports bra. She carried a yellow Walkman while listening to music. Multiple witnesses reported seeing a suspicious vehicle, described as a white or blue Chevrolet Camaro or Pontiac Trans Am, in the area. A man, possibly connected to this car, was also seen speaking to another jogger nearby. Despite extensive searches and investigations, including over 2,000 tips, Rachel has never been found.
In 2006, Michael Keith Moore, already serving time for other crimes, confessed to her murder, claiming he had killed Rachel and disposed of her body in Matagorda Bay. However, he later recanted his confession, and Rachel’s body has never been located. Law enforcement continues to search for answers, with the FBI offering a reward for information.
