In the quiet community of Covington, Louisiana, a family's life was unalterably changed on a cold day in early February 2003. Paul Allen LeBlanc, a 69-year-old man, was at his home in the Flowers Estate subdivision near North Azalea Drive. Around 2:00 p.m., he shared a hug and a kiss with his daughter, telling her he loved her before preparing to leave for a bicycle ride, a routine activity for the physically fit senior. His daughter later recalled that he seemed disoriented during their farewell. Mr. LeBlanc then departed on his blue Schwinn mountain bike and was never heard from again. His disappearance left his family with unanswered questions and the start of a long and painful search for answers. Compounding the family's distress were the significant health challenges Paul LeBlanc faced. He had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and was in the early stages of dementia. These conditions caused him to experience episodes of memory loss and seizures, which could leave him immobile. At the time he went missing, he was described as a white male, standing 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 210 pounds, with salt-and-pepper hair and green eyes. He had a visible hair transplant along his hairline. When he left for his bike ride, he was wearing a long-sleeved, white, pin-striped, button-up dress shirt and dark-colored wool slacks. On his feet were blue, gray, and silver Nike athletic shoes, and on his wrist, a distinctive Gucci watch with a round red and green face. The investigation into Paul LeBlanc's disappearance was launched by the Saint Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, but the circumstances provided few leads. Extensive searches were conducted in the heavily wooded area surrounding his neighborhood, where homes are situated far apart, making it difficult to find any witnesses who may have seen him. In a unique turn of events, teams that were in the region searching for debris from the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster also aided in the search for the missing man. Despite these efforts, and the eventual recovery of his abandoned bicycle, no trace of Paul LeBlanc was ever found. The case grew cold over time, leaving his family, particularly his daughter, to continue advocating for him and holding out hope. The circumstances surrounding what happened after he left for his bike ride remain a mystery, and his case is still considered an unsolved endangered missing person case.
