On October 17, 2004, a 31-year-old man named Jeromy Ivan Childress disappeared while on an annual elk hunting trip in Tillamook County, Oregon. He was with a friend and his friend's young son in the Tillamook National Forest near Trask Mountain. At approximately 4:30 p.m., near Tucca Creek Road and Boundary Road, Jeromy and his companions realized they were lost and could not find their way back to their camp. Believing he could locate their campsite on his own, Jeromy walked into the brush alone. His friends eventually found their way to the designated meeting spot, but Jeromy never did. He left behind all of his overnight gear at the campsite. At the time he was last seen, he was wearing a dark brown Carhartt-type jacket, stonewashed Levi's jeans, brown Copeland hiking boots, and a blue Nike baseball cap. He also had on a gold wedding band with five inset diamonds and a silver Citizen Eco-Drive watch. An extensive search of the area was launched, but no trace of Jeromy was ever found. The terrain where he went missing is described as very steep, rugged, and covered in thick brush with numerous gullies and fallen trees. The area is also home to wildlife such as bears, cougars, and coyotes. It is widely believed that Jeromy either became lost or sustained an injury in the wilderness and ultimately succumbed to the elements. Foul play is not suspected in his disappearance. In 2006, his wife obtained a death certificate, allowing her to manage their shared property and collect Social Security benefits for their two children. Jeromy was an industrial bridge painter and blaster who enjoyed outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, and boating. He had several distinguishing physical characteristics, including a pierced left ear and tattoos of a phoenix on his left shoulder and a dolphin on his right shoulder blade. He also had previously fractured some fingers on his right hand, and his two upper front teeth were crooked, with a chip on the left one. The overview of the case is that Jeromy Childress, an experienced hunter, tragically vanished during a hunting trip after getting separated from his companions in a challenging and remote wilderness area. Despite search efforts, no evidence of his whereabouts has ever been discovered, leading to the presumption that he perished in the unforgiving landscape.
