In early 2005, a young woman named Anna Love Vigil disappeared from the streets of Albuquerque, New Mexico, leaving her family, including a young son, without answers. The then 20-year-old was last seen sometime in January of that year and has not been heard from since. Born on November 19, 1984, Anna was described as a Caucasian and Hispanic female with blonde hair and blue eyes, standing at 5'6" and weighing around 130 pounds.
She had distinctive tattoos: the name "Paul" on her right ankle and a flower on her left ankle. At the time she went missing, Anna was reportedly struggling with heroin addiction, a circumstance that may have contributed to her vulnerability. She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans, a gray jacket, and white shoes.
Anna's disappearance is part of a larger, more troubling pattern of women who went missing in the Albuquerque area between 2001 and 2006. Many of these women, like Anna, were known to be involved in drugs and prostitution. This string of disappearances cast a dark shadow over the city and led to a horrifying discovery in 2009. The remains of eleven women and an unborn child were found buried in a desert area on the West Mesa, a case that has become known as the West Mesa murders. The victims shared similar backgrounds to the women who were still missing, prompting investigators to consider a connection between the cases. Although Anna's remains were not found among those on the West Mesa, her case is often mentioned in connection with this tragic discovery.
The investigation into Anna's disappearance has remained active over the years. The Albuquerque Police Department has continued to look into her case, along with those of several other women who vanished under similar circumstances. In an effort to bring renewed attention to these cold cases, the police department featured Anna and seven other missing women in a podcast episode titled "The Missings." These eight women all disappeared between 2003 and 2006, and authorities believe their cases may be connected to the West Mesa murders. Despite the passage of time, the search for answers continues, fueled by the hope of providing closure for the families of the missing.
