Mary Margaret Cook, a 25-year-old mother of two, went missing on November 14, 1970, from Highland City, Florida. On the day of her disappearance, her husband, Leathern "Earl" Cook, claimed that she had left to go shopping at a local store to buy Christmas presents for their children. She never returned home. The next day, her white 1959 Cadillac was found abandoned in the store's parking lot, with her wallet inside, but the $200 she was reportedly carrying was missing.
Investigators were particularly interested in Earl's account, as their son later recalled hearing an argument between his parents that day. The boy also mentioned his father's command "not to look outside" during this time. Authorities later dug up the garage floor of their home in 2003 but found no evidence linking Earl to Mary's disappearance. Despite this, Earl remained the prime suspect throughout the investigation. Earl passed away in 2007, never having been charged in connection with his wife’s case.
