On the evening of February 17th, Aleca, a woman of mixed White and Native American heritage, attended a concert at the Celebrity Theatre on North 32nd Street with friends. At some point during the event, she became separated from her companions. The last confirmed sighting of Aleca was at approximately 10:30 p.m. that night. She was dressed in a light green blouse, moss green pants, a dark green floor-length coat, and dark tan shoes. After the concert, Aleca never made it back to her home, and her absence was further noted when she failed to appear for work, sparking immediate concern among those who knew her. Aleca was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, on March 13, 1952, and was adopted by James and Norma Manning. Described as having brown hair and green eyes, she stood about 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighed around 125 pounds. Friends and family remember her as a friendly and trusting person, sometimes characterized as a "happy flower child" who might have been a bit naive. After her parents' difficult divorce, Aleca and her mother moved to Arizona. She graduated from Westwood High School in Mesa in 1970. The disappearance of their only child was a devastating blow to her parents. Her father passed away in 1971, and her mother, Norma, who never stopped searching for answers, passed away in 2008 without ever knowing what happened to her daughter. In 1982, seven years after she was last seen, Aleca Renee Manning was legally declared deceased.
