In the early morning hours of January 7, 1976, Linda Sue Davis, a 29-year-old female from Claremore, Oklahoma, disappeared. She was a divorced mother of young children. Linda was last seen at approximately 1:30 a.m. at Don's Club in Claremore in the company of an unidentified white male. The day before she vanished, she had expressed concern to her boss at the Orbits lounge that she believed someone had been following her, but she thought she had lost them. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as a white female with light brown hair and green eyes, standing between 5'6" and 5'7" tall and weighing around 200 pounds. She had a possible abdominal scar from a hysterectomy. The day after Linda was last seen, her 1970 Ford two-door car was found abandoned in Oklahoma City, in the 400 block of northwest 9th Street. A witness reported seeing a man park the car and walk away. Inside the trunk of the vehicle, investigators discovered her purse, which contained her driver's license, makeup, and prescription medication. Also in the trunk was her light-colored corduroy coat, which was stained with blood and had approximately twenty puncture marks. Further investigation revealed blood inside the car and on the fender. A few days later, one of Linda's brown shoes was found in a nearby bush. Linda's disappearance was complicated by her connection to a pending criminal case. She was scheduled to be a witness in an assault case against a man named Roland Corky Sanders, who was charged with pointing a deadly weapon at a police officer in the summer of 1975. After Linda vanished, Sanders pleaded guilty and received a two-year deferred sentence. Over the years, speculation has arisen about what might have happened to Linda, including the possibility that she entered a witness protection program or was the victim of a serial killer. Despite the disturbing evidence found in her car and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, no charges have ever been filed in her case. The investigation into what happened to Linda Sue Davis remains open, a long-standing mystery that has left her family without answers for decades.
