On June 7, 1978, 5-year-old Grace Noel "Gracie" Reapp and her mother, Grace Marie Reapp, disappeared from their home in Jericho, Vermont. The case quickly took a suspicious turn when Grace’s husband, Michael Reapp, reported them missing five days later, on June 11. A note allegedly left by Grace suggested that she and her daughter had left voluntarily and had no intention of returning.
Despite the note, Grace’s family and authorities believed the circumstances of their disappearance were deeply suspicious.
Michael Reapp, who admitted to having multiple extramarital affairs, filed for divorce just ten days after they vanished, citing desertion. Although Michael maintained that Grace had left on her own accord, leaving their two sons behind, investigations led to foul play suspicions. Over the years, numerous searches were conducted, including digs on the family property, but no trace of Grace or Gracie was ever found.
In 2006, nearly 28 years later, Michael was charged with the murders of Grace and Gracie, though he was never apprehended. Investigators believe that Michael killed Grace after she discovered his affair and that Gracie was murdered because she witnessed the crime. Michael evaded authorities until 1997, when he committed suicide in Arizona during a police pursuit after an unrelated carjacking.
