Kimberly Sue Doss was a 14-year-old girl from Davenport, Iowa, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances in March 1980. Born on February 12, 1966, Kimberly had recently returned to Davenport after living with her mother in Houston, Texas. She chose to stay with her boyfriend and his family instead of her father. On March 20, 1980, she called her mother to inform her that she had purchased a bus ticket to return to Houston, planning to stop overnight in Chicago with a new acquaintance named Kathy. Kimberly never arrived in Houston and has not been heard from since.

Initial attempts by her mother to report her missing were unsuccessful due to jurisdictional issues between Texas and Iowa authorities. It wasn't until September 1982, after her mother moved to Davenport, that a missing person report was officially filed. This delay led to confusion about the actual date of her disappearance, with some records incorrectly listing it as 1982.

In the early 1980s, a charitable organization claimed to have encountered a woman in California using the name Kimberly Kathleen Gardner, who they believed was Kimberly Doss. This woman was later identified as Shannon Jones, and DNA testing in 2018 confirmed she was not Kimberly.

Despite these developments, Kimberly's whereabouts remain unknown. Her family continues to seek answers, believing she may have met with foul play. The case is still open, and authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
