On the morning of March 7, 1983, a 14-year-old girl named Tracy Ann Byrd was dropped off at Bensalem High School in Bensalem Township, Pennsylvania, by her mother's boyfriend, Paul Greenwald. Tracy, a ninth-grader with strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes, was dressed in a shirt and jeans. Unbeknownst to her family, she had been suspended from school and was not permitted to attend classes until her mother met with the principal.
