Arlene Day Abbas, a 36-year-old woman, disappeared on January 6, 1989, after leaving a halfway house in Brooklyn, New York. Arlene had been battling schizophrenia and was recently released from a New York City hospital to the halfway house. Originally from Indiana, she moved to New Orleans as an adult, where she converted to Islam and had three children with her husband. The couple divorced in the mid-1980s, and Arlene relocated to New York, leaving her children in the care of her ex-husband.
Arlene was last seen wearing traditional Muslim clothing and may have been struggling with her mental health at the time. Her family has speculated that she may be institutionalized somewhere or unable to contact her loved ones. Despite extensive efforts by authorities, her whereabouts remain unknown, and her case remains unsolved to this day.
