John Calvin Ogle, age 65, was last seen on May 16, 1994, while fishing near the municipal wharf in Santa Cruz, California. Despite poor weather conditions, Ogle ventured out in a rented 12-foot yellow rowboat equipped with an outboard motor. The sea was rough that day, with waves reaching three to four feet and wind speeds exceeding 20 miles per hour. After Ogle failed to return, searchers discovered his unoccupied boat drifting about 1.5 miles offshore in Monterey Bay.
They also recovered his life jacket and fishing equipment.
Given the circumstances and the evidence found, authorities believe that Ogle likely drowned. Despite extensive search efforts, no further trace of him was found, and his case remains classified as a lost/injured missing person. Investigators continue to handle the case as an unresolved disappearance.
