Anjanette Marie Piotrowski, a 21-year-old woman, was last seen on October 17, 1994, in Hamburg, New York. Originally from Michigan, she had moved to the Buffalo area in the summer of 1994 with her fiancé. After the couple broke up and he returned to Michigan, Anjanette decided to remain in New York. She initially lived with her ex-fiancé's father, Ronald Erhardt, in Lackawanna before moving into a local motel. On the day of her disappearance, Anjanette called in sick to her job at Polymer Conversions at 1:30 a.m. Later that morning, she was seen by a mechanic in Blasdell, New York, in the passenger seat of a car being driven by Ronald Erhardt, who had stopped to check on his vehicle that was in for repairs. This would be the last confirmed sighting of Anjanette. The circumstances following Anjanette's last known whereabouts raised significant concern among investigators. According to Ronald Erhardt's account to the police, he and Anjanette went to Broderick Park in Buffalo after leaving the auto repair shop, where they had an argument. He claimed that he then left and walked home alone. The mechanic at the auto shop later reported that when Erhardt returned to pick up his car later that same day, he had changed his clothes and Anjanette was not with him. Further suspicion was cast on Erhardt when it was discovered that he had canceled a check he had written for an apartment Anjanette was planning to move into and had also cleared her belongings out of her residence without reporting her missing. Although Erhardt maintained that his relationship with Anjanette was fatherly, police believed it may have been romantic. Despite extensive investigation, Anjanette's case remains unsolved, and foul play is highly suspected. Ronald Erhardt was considered the prime suspect in her disappearance, but he refused to cooperate further with the police and later moved to Kentucky, where he passed away in 2016. A clump of human hair found near his hunting camp was tested for a possible DNA match to Anjanette, but the results were inconclusive. Over the years, there have been attempts to connect her case to unidentified remains, including a decapitated body found in Lake Ontario in 1995, but no definitive link has been established. Anjanette had a history of a difficult childhood and strained relationships, but she maintained contact with her family, making her sudden disappearance uncharacteristic.
