Germano DiLorenzo, a 46-year-old man, disappeared on February 10, 1996, while boating with four friends off the coast of Santa Cruz County, California. The group was near Greyhound Rock, four miles south of Año Nuevo Island, when a series of large waves flipped their 20-foot Sunbird boat, tossing all passengers into the Pacific Ocean. DiLorenzo, who could not swim and was not wearing a life jacket, was seen slipping beneath the water during the rescue efforts.
Despite the assistance of surfers and the eventual rescue of the other passengers, DiLorenzo was never found and is presumed to have drowned.
In the aftermath of the incident, his wife filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the boat's captain, alleging negligence for not ensuring DiLorenzo was wearing a life jacket. The case remains unsolved, with no trace of his body ever being recovered. DiLorenzo is described as a white male, 5'7" tall, weighing 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
