On the evening of May 18, 1996, Robert "Bob" Dale Jr., a 33-year-old man from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, vanished without a trace. Earlier that night, he and his wife attended a wedding reception. Following the reception, they, along with other guests, planned to continue the evening at a local bar called The Downtowner. Witnesses saw them in their van heading north toward the downtown area between approximately 11:15 p.m. and midnight. Robert, who was reportedly intoxicated, was in the passenger seat. He was wearing a distinctive bright yellow polo shirt, black dress slacks, and deck-style shoes. A devoted family man and father of three sons, his disappearance was completely out of character. The events immediately following the wedding reception are somewhat unclear. While the initial plan was to go to The Downtowner Bar, it is uncertain if Robert ever made it there. There was a report of him being seen behind the bar, but the witness later retracted their statement, leaving his exact last known location in question. Some accounts suggest an argument occurred between Robert and his wife before he disappeared. His wife reported him missing on May 20, 1996. At the time he went missing, Robert had very little money on him, no more than about five dollars, and no credit cards. Years have passed since Robert Dale Jr. was last seen, and his case remains unsolved. Authorities have stated there is no evidence to suggest he left on his own accord, and they have not found any records of him taking a taxi or hitchhiking out of the area. His family suspects that foul play was involved in his disappearance. Described as a dedicated family man, those close to him firmly believe he would not have voluntarily left his wife and three children. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Department continues to investigate his case, hoping that someone will come forward with the information needed to finally bring answers to his loved ones. The disappearance of Robert Dale Jr. is a perplexing case that began after a night of celebration and ended in mystery, leaving a family to wonder what happened to him after he was last seen in Sault Ste. Marie.
