Thirteen-year-old Tabitha Danielle Tuders, known affectionately as "Boo" by her family, was woken for school by her father around 7:00 a.m. before he left for work. A well-behaved and trustworthy girl, Tabitha was a straight-A student at Bailey Middle School with a perfect attendance record. Neighbors later reported seeing the young girl walking her usual route of just a few minutes toward her school bus stop at 14th and Boscobel Streets. She was never seen again. Tabitha never boarded the bus and did not arrive at school that day. When she failed to return home that afternoon, her mother grew concerned and went to the school, only to learn Tabitha had been absent. Her parents officially reported her missing to the police at about 6:00 p.m., more than 10 hours after she was last seen. The investigation into Tabitha's disappearance began immediately, with police establishing a command post in the neighborhood and conducting extensive searches with tracking dogs and aviation support. Though initially considered a possible runaway due to her age, investigators soon came to believe she was abducted, as she had left all her possessions behind, including cash, and had no history of running away. A significant, though unconfirmed, lead came from a neighborhood boy who told police he saw Tabitha get into a red car with a man after the vehicle stopped beside her. Scent-tracking dogs seemed to corroborate part of his story, following her trail along a similar route. Over the years, investigators have looked into numerous individuals, including registered sex offenders living in the area and a man arrested for attempting to lure another child into his car just blocks from Tabitha's home. A piece of paper with the initials "T.D.T. – N – M.T.L." was found in her room, but the identity of "M.T.L." has never been confirmed. Decades have passed, yet the case remains unsolved, leaving a permanent void in the lives of Tabitha's family. The investigation has seen various leads surface and fade over time. There were unconfirmed sightings of a girl resembling Tabitha in Linton, Indiana, in October 2003, where witnesses described her as looking anxious and afraid. In August 2020, a new tip led investigators to search a rural six-acre property in Bon Aqua, which was connected to a person of interest, though the search yielded no conclusive evidence. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to finding Tabitha and prosecuting those responsible for her disappearance. The overview of this case is one of enduring mystery and heartbreak; a young girl with a bright future vanished on a short walk to her bus stop in broad daylight. Despite extensive searches, witness reports, and countless investigative hours spanning over two decades, there has been no definitive evidence to explain what happened to Tabitha Tuders, leaving her loved ones in a state of perpetual waiting and uncertainty.
