On March 6, 2004, a 17-year-old girl named Ivory Francis Green vanished from Utica, New York. That evening, she was walking home and called her mother to say she would be home in a little while for dinner. Ivory, however, never arrived. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as being 4'11" and weighing around 110 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Distinctive features included a mole near the left side of her upper lip, a scar behind her left ear, and a mark in the shape of an 'H' on her shoulder. She was last seen wearing baggy blue jeans, a black winter coat, and a black baseball cap with a bandana. Her style of dress often led to her being mistaken for a boy. Initially, because she was going through a rebellious phase, Ivory's case was classified as a runaway. This classification persisted for several years. However, two months after she went missing, a disturbing event suggested a more sinister reason for her absence. A distant relative, Plummer Reed Jr., telephoned Ivory's mother, claiming to have information about what had happened to her. Before he could elaborate, the call was abruptly ended by the sound of gunshots. Reed was shot multiple times in the head but survived. His cousin, Benji D. Reed, was later convicted of the attempted murder. Since the incident, Plummer Reed Jr. has denied having any knowledge regarding Ivory's disappearance. By 2007, authorities began to suspect that Ivory had been murdered. One theory is that her death was in retaliation for a drug money theft allegedly committed by her cousin. Investigators believe that Ivory, who was known to associate with drug dealers in the Utica area, may have willingly gone with someone who then caused her harm. Police have stated they believe they have already interviewed individuals who have knowledge of her whereabouts, with some of these individuals currently incarcerated. Despite the passage of time and numerous leads investigated by the Utica Police Department, the case of what happened to Ivory Green remains unsolved, leaving her family with unanswered questions.
