On the day of her disappearance, she left her father's home, located on Peaceful Way, intending to go for a short walk. Elissa was spotted walking west on Peaceful Way and then south on Avery Road, but she never returned.
Search dogs initially picked up her scent along Avery Road, but the trail went cold, leading to speculation that she may have accepted a ride from a passing motorist.
Elissa had spent most of her life in the Miami/Dade area before relocating to Campbellton. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a red tank top, gray sweatpants, and black leather sneakers. Elissa had schizophrenia and required daily medication, most of which she left behind, raising significant concerns about her well-being.
