David William Barth, age 70, was last seen on July 30, 2004, in Emigrant Gap, California. On the day of his disappearance, Barth was sitting on the porch of his home when his wife noticed him missing just ten minutes later. A neighbor reported seeing Barth walking eastbound along the railroad tracks near Blue Canyon, carrying a rust-colored backpack. He was possibly heading out for a hike.
