David William Barth, age 70, was last seen on July 30, 2004, in Emigrant Gap, California. On the day of his disappearance, Barth was sitting on the porch of his home when his wife noticed him missing just ten minutes later. A neighbor reported seeing Barth walking eastbound along the railroad tracks near Blue Canyon, carrying a rust-colored backpack. He was possibly heading out for a hike.
Barth had dementia and walked with a pronounced limp due to a previous leg injury.
He also suffered from other health issues, which raised concerns about his ability to survive on his own in the rugged terrain near his home. Despite extensive search efforts, including the involvement of local law enforcement, no trace of Barth has ever been found.
