George Robert Zelaya, also known as "Skip," disappeared on January 13, 2005, from his home in Homosassa, Florida. At the time, he was 61 years old. Zelaya was last seen in the early morning hours when he left his residence, and his white 1988 Lincoln sedan was found the next day at a nearby shopping center on Highway 19, with his wallet discovered under the seat. For years, his case remained a mystery, and no significant leads emerged.
In January 2015, a breakthrough occurred when skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area about 1,500 feet from Zelaya's home. The remains were identified as his in February 2016, bringing some closure to his family. However, the circumstances of his death remain unclear. While authorities have considered suicide as a possible explanation, the exact cause and manner of his death are still under investigation.
