On May 1, 2008, a 27-year-old mother of four, Lutricia Steele, known to her loved ones as "Trish" or "TT," left her mother's home on Webster Street in Schenectady, New York, around 2:00 p.m. She told her mother she was going to run some errands and would be back in a couple of hours to take her two youngest children to a barbecue. She was a mother to four children; her two older children lived with her ex-husband, while the two younger ones resided with her and her mother. It was considered highly uncharacteristic of her to abandon her children. In the weeks leading up to her disappearance, she had asked her half-sister about caring for two of her children for a month but was unwilling to grant temporary legal custody. On the day she went missing, she confided in a friend that she believed she was pregnant and had a doctor's appointment to confirm it. Reports indicate she did make it to her doctor's appointment that day. Her prepaid cell phone remained active for a period after she was last seen, but no calls were ever made from it. The investigation into Lutricia's disappearance has been extensive, with the Schenectady Police Department looking into over 190 leads and tips over the years. A significant detail in her case is that she was scheduled to testify against the father of her youngest child, whom she had accused of rape; his trial was set to begin in May 2009. However, the man was reportedly in jail at the time of her disappearance. Her family has remained in contact with law enforcement, continuously hoping for answers.
