Barbara B. Blount, a 58-year-old widow, was last seen at her home in a rural area of Holden, Louisiana, on the morning of May 2, 2008. A neighbor spoke with her on the phone around 11:30 a.m., and she mentioned she was cleaning out her kitchen cabinets. This was the last known contact anyone had with her. Her family grew concerned when she became unreachable later that day. Her nephew went to check on her and found the front door of her house wide open. Inside, pots and pans were stacked on the kitchen floor, yet nothing of value seemed to be missing, ruling out robbery as a motive. Adding to the mystery, her cell phone was discovered on the floor with the battery removed. Later that same afternoon, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Barbara's silver Toyota Camry was found abandoned about a quarter of a mile from her residence. The vehicle was parked on a dirt logging road, concealed by trees. The car keys were found partially buried in the gravel nearby. A witness later reported seeing a woman who matched Barbara's description standing by her car that day, appearing frightened, with a white man and a white pickup truck also present. Extensive searches of the surrounding wooded areas and waterways by law enforcement, including the FBI, and volunteers in the days and years that followed yielded no trace of Barbara. The investigation was hampered by heavy rains that started on the day of her disappearance, potentially washing away crucial evidence. Barbara was known to be a cautious person who lived a quiet life and was deeply involved in her local Baptist church. She lived alone but maintained close relationships with her two children, who lived on the same road, and she cooked for them daily. Her disappearance was considered highly out of character, and investigators suspect foul play was involved. One theory that has been considered is a possible connection to the death of her husband four years prior in a train accident, though no definitive link has been established. Despite the passage of time and being legally declared dead in 2010, her family holds onto hope for answers. The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office continues to investigate her case, occasionally receiving new tips and information. The case remains an active and unsolved missing person investigation, leaving her family and community with unanswered questions about the fate of the beloved mother and community member.
