Samuel Bower, a 58-year-old Utah native, went missing on December 2, 2009, while on a solo boating trip off the coast of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Bower had rented a 21-foot Triumph boat and was last seen departing Honokohau Harbor around 10:30 a.m., intending to meet friends in Kealakekua Bay. He was expected to return by 5:30 p.m., but his boat was later found that evening, about three miles offshore, unoccupied and still running in circles.
