Janis Kay Sanders, a 24-year-old mother of two, disappeared on July 20, 1975, after leaving her job as a waitress at Pete's Patio in Niles, Michigan. That night, she was followed by her estranged boyfriend, Gerald Libertowski, to the parking lot. Witnesses described Libertowski as acting erratically, and Janis appeared frightened during their interaction. She was never seen again after that encounter.
