On October 8, 1976, 16-year-old Trenny Lynn Gibson disappeared while on a school field trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Trenny was hiking with her classmates from Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, along the Forney Ridge Trail near Clingmans Dome.
