Nelida De Jesus Del Valle, a 9-year-old girl, disappeared on December 20, 1976, while walking to her school, William Blackstone Elementary, located just a block and a half from her home in Boston, Massachusetts. Despite her shy nature and distrust of strangers, Nelida never made it to school and has not been seen since.
In the weeks following her disappearance, authorities discovered a chilling clue when a woman reported that a man, Anthony "Rudy" Flores, had given her
Nelida’s hat and gloves. Flores resembled a sketch of a possible abductor and was found to be in possession of a fake police badge and gun. Though police believed he might have posed as an officer to gain Nelida’s trust, they lacked sufficient evidence to charge him with her abduction. Flores was later convicted for unrelated crimes and remains a suspect, but he continues to deny involvement in Nelida’s case.
The investigation took another strange turn in 1985 when Nelida’s mother thought she recognized her daughter in a photograph found in the home of David R. Collins, a man linked to multiple crimes across the U.S. However, upon closer inspection, the identification was ruled out.
