In the late summer of 1977, in the small community of Taylor's Grove, South Carolina, a 69-year-old man named Bennie Crockett vanished without a trace. On the evening of August 12th, Mr. Crockett was last seen at Rankin's Grocery on U.S. 521. The time was sometime after 7:00 p.m. Witnesses later recounted seeing him engaged in a conversation with an unidentified individual inside a vehicle that was curiously parked in the median of the highway.
Following this interaction, Bennie Crockett was never seen or heard from again. His sudden disappearance left his family and the community with a void of unanswered questions and a deep sense of unease. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a Black male, standing at 5'5' and weighing approximately 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
The initial investigation into Bennie Crockett's disappearance was handled by the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office. Despite their efforts, which included searches of the surrounding areas, no sign of Mr. Crockett was ever found. The mysterious circumstances of his last known moments, particularly the conversation with the person in the vehicle on the highway median, fueled speculation and concern among his loved ones. His family has long held the belief that he did not simply walk away from his life, but rather met with foul play. They could not conceive of any reason why he would voluntarily sever all ties with them.
