In early 1979, Rebecca Jean Dunn, a 21-year-old resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, embarked on a trip to California with at least one female friend. At the time, Dunn was known to use aliases such as Babette Powers and Sandy Long. The journey to San Diego, a drive of roughly five and a half hours, was undertaken with a plan for the women to engage in sex work.
