Marlene Santana, just three days old, was abducted at gunpoint on October 21, 1985, in Brooklyn, New York. Her mother, Francisca Santana, had met the woman who kidnapped her at Brookdale Hospital, where Marlene was born. The abductor had admired the baby during visiting hours. When Francisca left the hospital with Marlene, the woman approached, threatening her with a gun, and demanded the child.
They walked for several blocks before the woman took Marlene at a junkyard and fled in a white Chevrolet Malibu driven by an accomplice.
Marlene had a distinctive foot deformity, making her feet appear "C"-shaped. The abductor was described as a woman in her mid-20s, possibly Caucasian or Hispanic, with reddish blonde hair that may have been dyed or a wig. Despite investigations, neither Marlene nor her abductor have been found, and authorities speculate the kidnapper may have been a woman who wanted a child to raise.
