Martin Alan Gentry, 23 years old, disappeared on July 20, 1986, from his residence in Rancho Cordova, California. On the day of his disappearance, Gentry received a phone call, changed his clothes, and left home intending to meet a woman at a local Circle K store. His plan was to purchase marijuana, but he never returned home. Six days later, his mother officially reported him missing.
Shortly after his disappearance, authorities received an anonymous tip suggesting that Gentry had been shot. Joseph Stanley, Gentry's best friend, was eventually charged with his murder. Stanley initially claimed that he had been coerced at gunpoint to lure Gentry from his home, and that he witnessed an unknown individual shoot him off Prairie City Road in Sacramento. Another witness, Christina Allen, who was Stanley’s girlfriend at the time, later alleged that Stanley had confessed to shooting Gentry.
Stanley was brought to trial twice in 1990, but both trials ended in mistrials due to the jury's inability to reach a verdict. As a result, Stanley was not prosecuted again, and Gentry’s body has never been found. Despite the unresolved legal proceedings, Gentry's case remains an unsolved mystery. Investigators continue to seek information that could lead to the recovery of his remains or provide closure to the case.
