Phillip Miles Chavis, a 21-year-old carpenter from Red Springs, North Carolina, was last seen on February 8, 1989. That evening, Phillip visited his father's home, which was located nearby on Route 2. He left his own home locked, with the lights and television still on, and was never heard from again. Chavis, a skilled craftsman who worked part-time for his father as a cabinetmaker, did not own a vehicle at the time of his disappearance, though he had a driver's license.
