Jeanie Naomi Lofton, a 21-year-old woman from Carthage, Texas, went missing on April 2, 1994. She was last seen after borrowing her mother's car to pick up medication for her sick baby. Jeanie never returned home, and later that day, her mother’s vehicle was found abandoned near Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church on FM 2517. Inside the unlocked car, authorities found her purse, keys, sunglasses, and the baby’s prescription, with no signs of a struggle.
At the time of her disappearance, Jeanie was in the midst of a contentious divorce and custody battle with her estranged husband, Charles Lofton. Their relationship had been volatile, with both having faced domestic violence charges. Shortly after Jeanie's disappearance, Charles claimed he was shot by an unidentified man, but authorities dismissed his story as false when they discovered evidence suggesting the gunshot was self-inflicted.
