Mary Carol Hill-Frederick, 37 years old, was last seen on June 3, 1994, in her Seminole Heights neighborhood of Tampa, Florida. She was at home that evening, and her last known sighting was at 9:30 p.m. After her disappearance, her house was found locked, the porch light was on, and her school materials were left on the table. Her car, a burgundy Pontiac Subaru station wagon, remained at the residence, but both her purse and a small revolver were missing. Mary’s husband and son were camping in Colorado at the time of her disappearance.
Mary, an employee of the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, had recently started law school at Stetson University and was excited about her future career. She was also a devoted mother and had no history of leaving without contacting her family, leading authorities and loved ones to suspect foul play.
A co-worker, Louis Joseph Hlava III, was reportedly with Mary on the night she disappeared and is considered a person of interest. Hlava, who had once been a close friend of the family, cooperated with initial police inquiries but later ceased communication with both authorities and Mary’s family. Despite suspicions, no substantial evidence has been found to charge him, and Mary's case remains unsolved. Her husband has publicly expressed his belief that foul play was involved and continues to seek closure.
