At the time of his disappearance, Chabarria was driving a partially primed 1987 Honda Civic with red stripes. He never returned home, and his disappearance prompted a search that extended across multiple counties.
Chabarria’s vehicle was found over a month later on May 17, 1997, abandoned on private property in Culberson County, Texas. The car was discovered covered in brush, with the keys still in the ignition and personal items, including a shotgun box, empty bottles, and ammunition, scattered inside. Investigators later learned that the shotgun had been purchased at a nearby Wal-Mart a few days after his disappearance, but it remains unclear who made the purchase. Despite these leads, no trace of Chabarria himself was ever found.
Chabarria had been going through a difficult time prior to his disappearance, reportedly drinking heavily and sleeping long hours.
