Cloudia Leslie Wells, a 44-year-old woman, was last seen on April 10, 1998, in San Diego, California. She was living at a YWCA shelter at the time and left to go to the Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital to pick up medication for her heart condition. She had only bus tokens and $2 on her when she disappeared. Cloudia never made it to the VA hospital and did not return to the shelter.
Cloudia had a history of mental health issues, including paranoid schizophrenia, and she required medication for both her mental health and heart condition. She was known to be streetwise and had traveled across the country in the past. Although she had previously dropped out of sight for extended periods, she would always reappear. However, after her 1998 disappearance, she never resurfaced.
In the years following her disappearance, her daughter, Robin Wells Burton, continued searching for her. In 2013, Robin came across a photograph in a Los Angeles Times article about homelessness and believed the woman in the photo could be her mother, as the name provided was one of Cloudia’s known aliases. There have also been sightings and reports of a woman matching Cloudia's description in Texas as recently as 2017, suggesting that she may still be alive, but she remains listed as a missing person.
Cloudia's case remains unsolved, and the San Diego Police Department continues to investigate.
