In the spring of 1999, seventeen-year-old Genelle "Princess" Bradford was on the cusp of several significant life milestones in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A senior and honor student at Wilkinsburg High School, she was looking forward to her eighteenth birthday, senior prom, and graduation, all just weeks away. Raised by her grandparents after her mother's death when she was five, Genelle was known by friends as a happy, responsible, and diligent student who was excited about her future. On April 27, 1999, Genelle attended her classes as usual, with friends later reporting that nothing seemed out of the ordinary. After school, she went to her part-time job at the local YWCA on Ross Avenue. She was last seen that evening, leaving work to walk home. Genelle never arrived, and has not been seen or heard from since. The following day, her grandparents reported her missing. Shortly after her disappearance, law enforcement theorized that Genelle may have run away. This theory was supported by her grandmother, who noted a change in Genelle in the months leading up to her disappearance; her grades had started to slip, and she seemed less focused on her schoolwork. Her grandmother also suggested the possibility that Genelle might have run away with a boyfriend or due to an unplanned pregnancy, though there was no evidence to support these speculations. In stark contrast, Genelle's friends have consistently disputed the runaway theory, emphasizing her excitement about upcoming events like prom and graduation. They described her as being "obsessed" with maintaining good grades and saw no indication that she planned to leave. Decades have passed since Genelle Bradford was last seen walking home from her job. Her case remains unsolved and is considered a cold case. Initially, investigators believed she might still be in the Pittsburgh area, but with the passage of time, her whereabouts are unknown. At the time of her disappearance, Genelle was described as a Black female with black hair and black eyes, standing between 5'3" and 5'4" tall, and weighing around 96 pounds. She had pierced ears and was last seen wearing a green jacket, a white shirt, tan pants, and black platform shoes. The Wilkinsburg Police Department continues to be the primary investigating agency, and despite the years that have gone by, hope remains that new information will come to light and provide answers in the case of the promising young woman who vanished just before her life was set to truly begin.
