Francheska Martinez, a 12-year-old girl from Paterson, New Jersey, went missing on June 9, 2000, just a day before her 13th birthday. On the morning of her disappearance, Francheska told her twin sister, Misheila, that she was going to a store near 17th Avenue and East 22nd Street. However, she never returned, and hours later, she called home to tell Misheila she was with friends at the Great Falls in Paterson, asking her not to inform anyone.
