Laura Ayala, a 13-year-old girl from Houston, Texas, went missing on March 10, 2002. That evening, she left her apartment around 10:15 p.m. to buy a newspaper for a school assignment from a nearby gas station. Laura successfully purchased the newspaper and was last seen leaving the store. However, she never returned home. Later that night, her shoes and the newspaper were discovered scattered in a parking lot between her apartment complex and the gas station.
Witnesses reported seeing a suspicious red and white cargo van near the scene around the time of her disappearance, but despite extensive searches, Laura was not found. In 2003, her case was linked to three men—Walter Alexander Sorto, Edgardo Rafael Cubas, and Eduardo Navarro—who were involved in multiple violent crimes in Houston. Although blood matching Laura's DNA was found in a vehicle used by the suspects, no charges were filed in her disappearance due to insufficient evidence.
