Eva Masin Prather, a 43-year-old mother of three, was last seen at her Missoula, Montana, home in the early morning hours of December 30, 2023. Her husband reported that she left their residence on foot between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Concerns were heightened because she was not dressed for the cold weather and may have even been barefoot. The night she disappeared, she left behind her phone, wallet, and keys.
Her disappearance prompted a significant response from the Missoula community, with widespread searches and social media campaigns dedicated to finding her. Law enforcement officials investigated various leads, including potential sightings, but none could be substantiated. Her husband indicated that she had been experiencing a mental health crisis, described as an episode of psychosis, in the days leading up to her disappearance. Police had conducted a wellness check the day before she went missing after a neighbor expressed concern, but she appeared lucid at that time.
Tragically, on October 13, 2024, a body was discovered in the Clark Fork River. On November 1, 2024, authorities confirmed the remains were those of Eva Prather. The cause and manner of her death remain under investigation.
