Chad Richard Kirkendall, a 23-year-old man, was last seen on June 29, 2004, in Mendocino, California. That afternoon, Chad borrowed his roommate's vehicle to pick up his mail, but he never returned. After about an hour, his roommate grew concerned and began to search for him. The vehicle was soon discovered abandoned and crashed in a ditch along Road 408 near the Woodlands Camp, with Chad’s shoes found at the scene. However, there was no sign of Chad himself.
Eyewitnesses later reported seeing Chad acting erratically on the day he disappeared. He had reportedly asked for a ride from a passerby and was dropped off at Mendocino Elementary School. This drop-off was the last confirmed sighting of him. Despite searches and investigations, no trace of Chad has been found since, and his case remains unsolved. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as 5'9" to 5'10" tall, weighing approximately 215 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He also had a distinctive tattoo of the number "311" in green ink.
Chad’s case has drawn some attention, but little new information has surfaced in the years since he vanished. Authorities continue to list his case as "endangered missing," and his family and the local community still seek answers to what happened that day.
