Charles Allen Jr., a 22-year-old senior at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, went missing on October 12, 2007, under unusual circumstances. Having legally changed his name to Neo Babson Maximus shortly before his disappearance, Charles was known to be suffering from bipolar disorder and had recently stopped taking his medication. This may have contributed to increasingly paranoid behavior in the days leading up to his disappearance.
On the evening of October 11, 2007, Charles spoke with his sister, who questioned him about the sudden deletion of his Facebook account. He denied deleting it and expressed concerns that "people were after him." In the early hours of October 13, 2007, Charles was involved in a bizarre incident where he attempted to break into a house near the UMass Dartmouth campus, claiming to be looking for a friend. When confronted by the homeowner, he apologized and fled into the nearby woods.
His personal belongings were later found scattered in the area. His backpack was discovered near the campus, and his sneakers were located in a wooded area, but his phone, keys, and wallet were never recovered. Despite searches of the area and inquiries at local homeless shelters and hospitals, no solid leads emerged regarding his whereabouts. Investigators do not suspect foul play and believe his mental health may have played a significant role in his disappearance.
Since that day, there has been no activity on his bank accounts, credit cards, or cell phone. Although there were scattered reports of possible sightings, including near a truck stop, none were confirmed.
