On September 23, 2008, in Hilo, Hawaii, 33-year-old Marlo Moku, a mother to a young daughter, vanished from her home. That day, according to her boyfriend, he came home for his lunch break around 11:30 in the morning. Marlo indicated that she needed to go to the store and intended to take their two-year-old daughter with her. Her boyfriend suggested she leave their daughter at home and go to the store by herself.
Marlo reportedly left the residence alone, wearing a pink tank top and shorts, and was never seen or heard from again.
The initial days of her disappearance turned into weeks of mounting concern for her family. A significant development in the investigation came 17 days after she was last seen, when her vehicle, a blue 1995 Chevrolet Corsica with Hawaii license plate HTN-328, was discovered. The car was located at the bottom of a cliff in Hakalau, a community several miles north of Hilo. The discovery of the abandoned and wrecked vehicle deepened the mystery surrounding her whereabouts but provided no immediate answers as to what had happened to Marlo. Authorities with the Hawaii Police Department continued their investigation into her disappearance, which they have classified as a criminal case.
Marlo is described as being of Asian descent, with dark brown, wavy, shoulder-length hair and brown eyes. She has several distinguishing physical features that her family hoped would aid in her identification. Her ears are pierced, and she has two parallel horizontal scars, each about three inches long, on her upper left arm. Additionally, she has a mole on her upper left cheek and another on her lower right cheek. A very distinct tattoo of the word "Sassy" in hot pink is located on the inside of one of her ankles. The case of Marlo Moku's disappearance has left her loved ones without answers for over a decade.
